After the second session, I was worried about my storyboard unit day and night. I think I need to develop it to a better design. During the second session, I realized some flaws. Before I reviewed my storyboard with other experts, I revised first based on the feedback from Virtual Session 2 and then I talked with some professors, PhD students in our program and my colleagues in my former school.
They helped me a lot in different aspects of my instructional unit.
Before I talked with other professors, I preferred to invite two PhD students from our program for some coffee to talk about my instructional unit.
Both of them said it was well designed and they like the flow chart best. They also gave me some suggestions for some improvement. They said the storyboard is specialized for a group of teachers, so I need to add the background of the teachers in the context so that others can understand better.
They also said from my design, they could see instructional contents delivered before the two training workshops. It was good to see all the teachers are learning the flipped classroom by doing the flipped classroom model. I need to mention this strategy in my context. I wrote:" To help all the teachers to immerse into the real authentic learning settings—the flipped classrooms, the flipped classroom model will be used for the training sessions. This is an introductory training session designed in a form of blending learning which combines face-to-face instruction with computer-mediated activities."
They also told me that I could keep the lecture and the demo class from the guest speaker if it was necessary. I could provide a friendly environment which teachers could have a tea break between the two activities. However, I thought the content of the lecture will be discussed after the demo class, because it's related to the demo class. Therefore, I didn't accept that idea, I deleted the lecture instead.
They also mentioned the last image would confuse readers because it's a comparison of two teaching models. I argued that for the whole training session, based on the contrast of traditional classrooms and flipped classrooms, teachers began to learn and accept the new model for their own class. I would prefer the keep it.
The discussion was great, they offered great ideas and also shared the experience of doing the project. I have more confidence in accomplishing the project successfully.
Then I called my colleagues in my former school because we took the training three years ago. We reviewed my storyboard unit, he said it was great ,even better than the training we took. However, she said I could write down the details how we developed our lesson plan, that was the most difficult part in the training. We recalled our memories and I wrote down the details.
Next, I made an appointment with Prof. Pusch, he read my storyboard and said overall, it looks great. But the most important for me is to think about how to align all the learning goals with learning and teaching activities and assessment in before-session, during session and after session activities, and how to maximize teacher involvement and enhance retention and application of relevant educational materials. Also, for each storyboard, the key learning outcomes should also be clearly aligned with the major learning outcomes.
After the consultation from different areas, I started the journey of modifying my instructional unit. I have a much clearer picture of what my storyboard unit will be and how to do it. I feel so lucky and I am grateful to all of them!
