Discussions with my colleagues about my instructional unit

Preparing for the assignments is a great chance to talk with my old friends in my former school.

They were also impressed by the training for using a flipped classroom model in their classrooms. Now they are comfortable to redesign their teaching methods.

Design with Ease

Do you have a design in mind for your flipped classroom?

My friends talked about the experience first. My friends say nowadays they choose to divided the required English textbook into different topics such as travel, hobbies and so on.

Pre-engagement

Design core: Choose different materials related to the topics students are going to discuss.

Students will be asked to watch the instructional videos outside the classroom. They use the application named"BOXFISH" when necessary. Sometimes students listen to the conversations or read some related materials to know how to develop the topics. My friends even record and narrate screencasts of work they do and create videos. This is the part students love most. After each activity students will have some open-ended questions, quizzes, questionnaires to evaluate their pre-work for the class.

Engagement

Design core: Engage all the students at different levels in the activities.

Students have more format to take the English classes, not just in a sit-and-listen format. They may have debates, group discussion, role play, in-class problem solving activities, case study, group investigation and so on.

Post-engagement

Design core: Consolidation for enhancement

Although students still have some dictation and writing work, they have more interesting ways to consolidate what they have learned. They sometimes record their reflections and give comments to others by Flipgrid.

Get Inspired

My friends shared the experience to advance students' preparation and how they have overcome the limitation of class time and provided more activities that can be applied to more interactive tasks.

I am glad to know the students get much more engaged into the class than before and students have greatly improved their English learning results as well.
