Nutrition from Reading I

To design a better storyboard set, I plan to finish the 6 readings and get good nutrition from the reading materials. I hope I can find the appropriate strategies to enhance my instructional units.

The first article I read is FIRST PRINCIPLES OF INSTRUCTION. The beginning of the article is very intriguing. I read with the great interest in what the first principles beyond the theories and models are. I couldn't stop reading the paper until I finished it. I am impressed by the four distinct phases: (1) activation of prior experience, (2) demonstration of skills, (3) application of skills, and (4) integration or these skills into real world activities.

What the theme of my instructional unit is to help all the English teachers in a middle school to advance students learn actively and effectively. The five instructional design prescriptions are very helpful.

They can be the measurements for me to know whether my instructions are effective or not.

· Learning is facilitated when learners are engaged in solving real-world problems.

· Learning is facilitated when existing knowledge is activated as a foundation for new knowledge.

· Learning is facilitated when new knowledge is demonstrated to the learner.

· Learning is facilitated when new knowledge is applied by the learner

· Learning is facilitated when new knowledge is integrated into the learner's world.

Finding proper ways to show learners to know what the flipped classroom model is and the essential problems that exist in their teaching for a long time is pretty important.

I will apply this useful strategies to my instructional units. Design a progression of problems to solve. Start with the easy questions and encourage the teachers to explore for the complex questions. With the develop of the process, the coaches can do less and less. After they solve the problems they will be motivated to transfer to new problem situations. The design of my instructional units should make the knowledge structures of the flipped classroom model, presentations of how to use the flipped classroom model in the classroom, how the teachers apply the model into their own class should be consistent.
