Research, Writing, Presenting

• co-author of 1 concept paper
In my first year as a doctoral student, I worked with another IDDE doctoral student and wrote a concept paper based on one RIDLR project under the supervision of Dr. Koszalka. The title of the paper is: A Rubric to Assess Learning Resources Using Principles of Design and Learning: An Addition to Instructional Designers' Toolbox. We designed a rubric using principles of design and learning to assess learning resources. In the beginning, I doubted whether learning resources could prompt learners to interact with and engage mentally in thinking about content, experience content in multiple and flexible ways, reflect on the use and value of content, and more generally whether learning resources could prompt learners to engage in deep learning. I tried to add more theories besides generative learning, cognitive flexibility, and reflective thinking. Dr. Koszalka didn't say much. However, later on, when I explored more, I found the theories I planned to add overlapped with the three theories. That stimulated my curiosity. I was determined to uncover the mystery of the hypothesis to prompt deep learning and engage more with RIDLR project. The paper later was accepted by AERA in 2020 and received high scores from the reviewers.
