Why Web-conferencing?

This topic reminds me of Henry Ford's famous proverb: Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.
All of us realize the importance of working together. However, we may confront the following problems: You would like to share visual information with people from different countries but you have a tight schedule you can't make it to see them; Sometimes you could figure out time to travel to meet them, but this can be very expensive and time-consuming, especially if you need to conference with people internationally.
How can we solve the problems? Simple, Web-conferencing!
A web conference allows you to meet with people frequently all over the world from the comfort of your office or home. By using web conferencing, you can show documents, share presentations, conduct polls or surveys and exchange files with people in any location. Web conferencing is a much more efficient, cost-effective and environmentally-friendly option.
What is Web-conferencing?
Web-conferencing is a new and effective form of media that allows the user not only to communicate verbally but also visually. This tool aids organizations in the meeting planning process by bringing together participants who are in other cities and countries to individual monitors, virtually eliminating the need to travel in order to meet.

Hi my friends,
Thank you all for your comments! I really appreciate that all of you can share your experiences by using web-conferencing or other convenient tools like Wechat, and the challenges you have met when you use web-conferencing. They inspired me to move forward! In the near future I hope I can introduce more resources about web-conferencing/video-conferencing for your further reference!

Hi Lei Wang,
Thank you for your introduction of Web-conferencing.
Personally, I had lots of conferences experiences by using the app WeChat, but it only allows maximum of two people to chat visually and verbally. So, when there are three or more people in a conference, we can only chat verbally. It is complex and difficult to explain some abstract things during the verbal chat, but Web-conference is really convenient and practical for communication among people from different places.
Hi Lei,
Your blog gave an excellent introduction to web-conferencing! I value face to face interaction, but as you've pointed out, this can be challenging when distance and schools make it difficult to see individuals. Web conferencing is a very helpful and convenient technology that is the closest thing to face to face interaction if actually meeting isn't possible. There are challenges with web conferencing however. I look forward to learning more about the pros and cons of web conferencing and the how to overcome the challenges in the weeks to come!
Thanks for sharing!

I think it's awesome that you are blogging about a topic that you are so passionate about! I too have utilized web conferencing for a variety of reasons in the past. Whether it is a job interview, educational lecture, or simply talking with a friend, being able to link up via video is a great tool. From a business perspective, the cost effectiveness of having meetings over video is vital. The ability to have convenient, easily structured get together is a must in today corporate world. I'm looking forward to reading more about your experiences with video conferencing throughout the semester!

Hi Lei Wang, thanks for your introduction of web-conferencing!
I think web-conference is really helpful for communication between people from different countries. But sometimes I find many web-conference technologies are not good enough, like network delay, high cost and so on. And I am really looking forward to see your following posts and hoping that you can give us examples of using web-conferening in education.
